The Picayune Municipal Separate School District has purchased its own drug canine.
The Picayune Items reports the board considered a policy revision last week regarding school searches, the addition of canine searches.
Brent Harrell, assistant superintendent, says the policy will not become official until later this month.
The 10-month-old single-purpose drug dog is a black, crossbred, American-Irish Labrador retriever named Ace.
Harrell says Ace will cover all of the schools in the district. He says Ace was purchased from Deep South K-9 Consultants, LLC. for $5,500 and he will be solely for the school district's use.
