Reports of two violent crimes within weeks at Vicksburg's City Park have officials looking at safety and security there.
The Vicksburg Post reports that a free-for-all involving more than 100 people at the park pavilion on June 21. Last Monday, two teens leaving the skate park were held up.
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen discussed both incidents in a secret session Wednesday. Mayor George Flaggs Jr. had a conflicting meeting.
The mayor says his nominee for police chief is certified in a program called Neighborhood Enhanced Training, which involves creating a unit to combat youth violence.
North Ward Alderman Michael Mayfield says the area has problems with fights among teens.
Police Chief Walter Armstrong says most calls there are for minor fights and misbehavior.
