RALEIGH, N.C. -

A total of 61 batteries were stolen from school buses at Southeast Raleigh High School, according to Raleigh Police, and police made an arrest in the case Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the incident happened between 7 p.m. Tuesday after all the buses were dropped off and before 5 a.m. Wednesday when drivers come into work. The issues did create some delays Wednesday morning.

A representative of TT & R Iron and Metal said 51-year-old Harvey Jones gave identification and took required picture to sell the batteries.

A total of 61 batteries were taken from 20 buses. Each battery costs an average of $120, making the total estimated replacement cost around $7,300.

Police said that batteries, when stolen, are sold for scrap value.
