News Channel 12 talks to a gun salesman about safety and how accidents like this can be prevented.
"Taking that curiosity away is the biggest key." Andrew Waldrop is a gun salesman at Van's Sporting Goods.
He says introducing guns to children in a safe responsible way is key to preventing fatal accidents from happening.
"Introducing them to a gun, unloaded, showing them what an unloaded gun is, showing them how to treat a gun even it if's unloaded. You know it always needs to be in your mind that it is loaded. Treat every weapon as if it's loaded."
He suggests keeping the gun in one specific location, "Something like that where only your or your spouse can access the weapon."
Also, Waldrop says to explain to kids the dangers of a gun. "Show them what is dangerous and how to treat it, they'll do it when you're not there."
