Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd has provided flight records for the sheriff's department helicopters.
Byrd had initially declined a request from The Sun Herald. On Tuesday, he gave the newspaper some records, including how his department has spent drug-forfeiture money in 2013.
The flight records show the helicopters have been used 39 times since April 2011. The sheriff's department has two helicopters, both military surplus.
The flight records show the sheriff's office used the helicopters to patrol the local port and the county, to participate in Memorial Day patrols, to search for a lost plane, for maintenance runs and for public relations, though the logs do not specify the type of public relations.
Money needed to secure the helicopters, and to maintain and fly them, comes from drug-forfeiture money.
