Supervisors Delay Award Of Garbage Contract

Posted: Updated:
Vicksburg -

Warren County has put off until Aug. 5 any decision on contract for residential garbage collection in rural areas.
Supervisors are hoping to get lower prices out of two companies.
The Vicksburg Post reports  that bids from Red River Service Corporation and Waste Management were a nickel apart in price and a bit higher than county supervisors expected.
Red River, of Austin, Texas, has offered $20.89 as a monthly rate for twice-weekly pickup, slightly less than Waste Management's $20.94-a-month bid. Waste Management is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
Supervisors had hoped for bids of less than $20 a month for residential customers based on bids the city of Vicksburg received in 2011.
Bids involve residential pickup only. Commercial businesses will continue to deal directly with a hauler of their choice.
