A Chickasaw County couple has pleaded guilty in court to selling counterfeit goods, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.

Willie McMillian, 46, and his wife, Sophia Hill McMillian, 47, both residents of Chickasaw County, pleaded guilty Monday, before Judge John A. Gregory in the Circuit Court of the Second Judicial District of Chickasaw County, to sale and possession with intent to sell goods bearing counterfeit labels or trade-marks.

McMillian owned and operated Urban Wear with Hill, where the couple sold a high volume of counterfeit goods bearing the Louis Vuitton and The North Face labels.

McMillian was sentenced to five years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with one year suspended. Additionally, McMillian must pay restitution in the amount of $1,550, $1,000 to cover investigative costs and must forfeit all items seized to the Attorney General's Office.

Hill was sentenced to five years, five years suspended.

All contraband will be disposed of by the Attorney General's Office.

"We have no choice but to dispose of these goods to keep them from ever being circulated into society," said Attorney General Hood. "Often times these type goods have not been properly regulated so we can't guarantee that even the dye used in the clothing is safe."

During the Attorney General's two year investigation, McMillian and Hill were arrested and indicted twice for selling and/or possession with the intent to sell counterfeit labels.  The approximate retail value of the goods seized during the investigation totals $750,000.

The Chickasaw County Sheriff's Department, Okolona Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff's Department, and the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit, all of which are members of the Attorney General's Knock Out Knock Offs Task Force, assisted with the arrest of the defendants.

This case was prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorneys General Patrick Beasley, David Linzey and Laci Bonner and investigated by Investigator Lee McDivitt of the Consumer Protection Division and Investigator Andy Harmon of the Chickasaw County Sheriff's Department.
