Area Coaches Hit the Links at 1st and 10 kickoff

   Our local high school football coaches gathered in advance of the season in our WSLS 1st and 10 kickoff luncheon and golf outing.  More than 20 of our local coaches and athletic directors at Hidden Valley Country Club for a day of comradery and fun. Christiansburg, Nelson Co, Rockbridge Co, Magna Vista, Martinsville, Patrick Henry and Northside were among the schools represented.

    The VHSL's massive realignment was one of the hot button topics. The new look which will change the face of the playoffs forever.  And we found out today the opinions and effects of these changes are different for everyone.  Coaches explained that although scheduling has become tougher for some..and there will be no Region champions, that overall the brackets are more fair--and the Region's top teams won't have to be eliminating each other early in the playoff process. Practice opens around the state on August 1st.

    ROANOKE (WSLS) - Part of Interstate 581 in Roanoke was shut down early this morning following what police say was a DUI crash.The accident happened around 3:10 a.m. Police say a man was driving a truck when he lost control and flipped.He was arrested for driving under the influence.All northbound lanes will be reopened to traffic momentarily.
