The Clinton Public School District will begin serving breakfast for students in grades K-6 on Monday, Aug. 19.
"We all know that hungry children have a more difficult time doing their best work," said Keba Laird, child nutrition supervisor. "That's why we encourage all students to begin the school day with a nutritious breakfast." Breakfast will be served at Clinton Park, Northside, Eastside and Lovett elementary schools every weekday from 7-7:40 a.m. Children do not have to register in advance.
"School breakfast makes good sense," Laird said. "It provides a fourth of your child's nutritional needs, meets Dietary Guidelines recommendations and offers children a chance to eat breakfast with their friends."
The cost is $1.50 for full-price meal students; 30 cents for reduced-price meal students; and free for students who qualify for free meals. To pay for your child's breakfast or lunch meals in advance, visit www.clintonpublicschools.com and click on "Online Meal Payments" under the Lunch Menu link.
Parents may apply for free or reduced meals at any time during the school year. Applications are available at each school. "School breakfast is an ideal solution on busy mornings when kids are running late or parents have to be at work early," she said. "Whatever the reason, if breakfast at home is not convenient, please have your child take advantage of breakfast at school."
