The ACLU of Mississippi will bring youth, parents and advocates from around the state for two days of workshops and activates focused on social justice and civil engagement.
Youth advocates will engage in Social Justice and know your rights workshops, develop leadership and advocacy skills, and leave ready to take action in their own communities.
Parents and advocates will meet concurrently for an update on education law and workshops on making change with policy makers in their communities.
Workshops will feature Tei Street, a nationally known youth advocate and speaker, Heather Weaver from the ACLU Religious Freedom Project in Washington, DC, and local advocates and artists. The parents and youth will join together Sunday morning for a showcase of artwork and artistic skills, all related to social justice.
On Saturday night, conference participants will gather for a moment of silent reflection and discussion of Trayvon Martin's death and what it will mean in their lives and social justice work in Mississippi.
