City Of Jackson Paid Disciplinary Leave

Jackson -

Over the past four years, the city of Jackson has paid 75 workers at least $160,000 to stay home on disciplinary leave.

The Clarion-Ledger says the total is likely much higher.

The newspaper says its analysis of city records identified 1,184 days of paid disciplinary leave from January 2009 to May 2013. But it says records for 46 workers did not indicate when their leave ended. There's no way to tell how long they were out or what they were paid.

The longest recorded suspension lasted 167 work days. The employee was paid $20,595. The city would not identify the worker, citing the personnel exception to the state's open records law.

The new administration won't say much on the subject, noting Mayor Chokwe Lumumba is still transitioning into office.
