New Mayor, Council Eye Water, Sewer Project

Jackson -

Jackson's $90 million water and sewer project remains in limbo while a new administration and City Council subject it to another round of scrutiny.

Under the terms of the project, known as an energy performance contract, Siemens would install new waters meters, upgrade the city's billing software, replace equipment at the two water plants and repair water and sewer lines - all of which is supposed to be paid for through guarantees of operational savings and new revenue.

Mayor Chokwe Lumumba tells The Clarion-Ledger he's ready to sign the notice to proceed, but in a nod to cooperation he brought it to the council first. He said he would like to sign it within the next two weeks.
