JACKSON - Former Lanier boys basketball coach Thomas Billups is suing the Jackson Public Schools District for failing to notify him that he would not be retained as head coach. Billups was let go last month.
His attorney tells WJTV they are alleging that JPS violated his due process rights because Mississippi law requires school districts to give licensed employees notice if they are not going to offer them a contract for the upcoming school year.
The suit says JPSD was supposed to give notice by April 1, 2013 and did not.
During his time at Lanier, Billups won 8 state titles and over 600 games.
