Area teams come together for Nash County Jamboree

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -

The countdown to Touchdown Friday is on! We're only a week away from openers across the east but on Thursday plenty of local teams hit the gridiron for their final scrimmages.

It's the Nash County Jamboree hosted by Nash Central High School and Greenville's DH Conley started things off against Southern Nash.

Southern Nash converted on two of their possessions. Deon Lavender found Tahj Deans on the first play from scrimmage for a huge gain. Then Zimonia Knight capped off the drive with a short run. Grant Jones scored the team's second touchdown.

For Conley, Quarterback Drew Buck led the way on offense where the Vikings scored twice as well. The first was a throw and catch to Miles Taylor, the second a wildcat keeper from Bam Staton. The Vikings had a chance on their final possession to win the scrimmage but came up just a yard short.

"It's a scrimmage but it could have been our first win of the year," said Conley Head Coach Brian Paschal. "It could have been something we could have hung our hat on. When you come up a yard short, you'd like to win it."
