Man Shot in Botched Gas Station Robbery

Posted: Updated:

One man is in critical condition after what witnesses call an attempted armed robbery left him with a gunshot wound to the chest.  Police arrested one suspect in connection with the incident at a south Jackson gas station.

Steve Newell says he saw the entire incident unfold before his eyes, the shots were fired outside the station in broad daylight at the intersection of Ellis Avenue and Raymond Road.

According to Newell, the shooter was attempting to rob the man in the van.

"He was trying to make him give him some money."

As paramedics treated the wounded victim, shot once in the chest, police quickly went searching for the man who pulled the trigger. It wasn't long before patrol officers had caught a suspect. Joshua Banks, 23, was taken into custody. Banks was charged with aggravated assault.
