Golden Eagles turn to Single-Wing Offense

Posted: Updated:

Coach Chuck Poston's gang was a ground attack gang anyway. But after last year's 4-6 season where the Golden Eagles failed to make the playoffs, the switch was made. Staunton River will run the single wing this season--a change made in the spring and worked on all summer long. Coach says he didn't see a 40 carry a game tailback in the near or even distant future, and felt his team's talents fit this offense best. Best known in this area as the offense Giles High has run with great success and tradition, the actual formation was invented by Pop Warner. The direct snap to a tailback was actually the precursor to what became the shotgun formation. Coach Poston has always believed in running the football and defense, and this offense allows a team to do just that--by using a ball control ground game. The Golden Eagles will open up against county rival Liberty on August 30th.
