Back to school events to be held for Wake Co. parents

RALEIGH, N.C. -
Parents of children in the Wake County Public School System will have the opportunity to attend free workshops designed to help them support their children's learning starting on Tuesday.
 
The launch of the 2013-14 Parent Academy will offer free workshops covering topics such as how to support kindergartners as they start school, the Common Core and Essential Standards, financial aid basics, special education information, among other topics.
 
All sessions are free and available in both English and Spanish. Childcare will be provided for children ages 4 to 13 during the sessions. Pre-registration is required for each event, with a total of 33 being held at three schools.
 
The schools holding sessions are Athens Drive High School, Reedy Creek Middle School and Millbrook High School.
 
Spanish-language sessions will be scheduled for The Hispanic Family Center (Centro para Familias Hispanas), located at 2013 N. Raleigh Blvd. in Raleigh.
