Cop Fired, Suspect in Pike County Murder

The Brookhaven Police Chief says officer 25-year-old Jasper Pittman has been fired after becoming a suspect in a murder in Pike County. 

He says Pittman was serving under a probationary period with his department because he was just hired two weeks ago.

Pittman worked with the McComb Police Department prior to being hired by Brookhaven Police Department.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating the murder, after a body was found over the weekend.

The body of 54-year-old Kenneth Ray Thompson of McComb was found near Josephine Drive East of the community of Fernwood, Sunday.

Four people have been charged in the case:  25-year-old Jasper Pittman of McComb, 26-year-old Greg Fortenberry of McComb, 17-year-old LeJerrious Perkins of McComb, and a 14-year-old juvenile.

Autopsy results are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
