Investigators say a huge fire at a vacant dry cleaners in downtown Jackson was arson.
Jackson Fire Department Chief Investigator Greg Travis said the Wednesday fire appears to have started as a dispute between vagrants.
Authorities picked up 45-year-old Clint Newsone. He's to be charged with second degree arson if the investigation shows he acted while the building was empty.
At least two squatters claimed they slept at the old cleaners including a man who identified himself only as 'Jimmie'.
"It was our home but now it's not no more," Jimmie said.
"My homie stay there. That's his home. And somebody else try to come in and he said they couldn't stay there so the guy came back and started a fire," Jimmie said.
This story of a fight over territory has now been confirmed by fire officials.
Chief Investigator Greg Travis says evidence in the ash points to the use of a combustible by the suspect who allegedly started the massive fire out of spite.
"Because of the nature of this fire they used what they called ladder trucks in an effort to be able to extinguish the fire because it was a fire that that they had to fight from the exterior. And they were not able to get to the interior at that point," Travis said.
At this point it's unclear the amount of damage that's been done to Dreamz Nightclub which is right next door.
The owner of Dreamz declined to comment for this story.
