Unattended or abandoned campsites around the Ross Barnett Reservoir will be out with the trash after Oct. 1, according to a press release from the agency that oversees the state-owned lands.

The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District will collect and discard any items left on sandbars or public areas after the deadline, as part of its cleanup efforts for the area.
Items that could be collected include tents, tarps, shade structures, grills or tables, a release from the District stated. Any unattended, uninhabited or abandoned sites will be subject to this new rule.

“Please assist the District and its community by removing any and all items utilized in your camping excursions,” the public announced stated.

The District has said the new cleanup rule is a matter of being environmentally responsible as well as a safety precaution for future campers.
