KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) -

Kingsport Police are asking for the public's help identifying a man they say cashed two counterfeit checks at separate Food City locations on August 10, 2013.

Investigators say the man cashed the first check at approximately 2:15 PM at Food City at 300 Clinchfield Street. They say less than an hour later, he cashed another at approximately 2:50 PM at Food City at 1205 North Eastman Road.

Police say the combined total the suspect received for the checks was nearly $1,000.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5'10" tall, with a slim build, clean shaven, with short brown hair, in his late 20s to early 30s.

When he cashed the checks, he used the alias "Austin Bell."

While both of these locations are in Kingsport, investigators say the suspect has also passed multiple other counterfeit checks at other locations throughout the Tri-Cities area.

Police say he was last seen driving a late model teal green Audi four-door station wagon.

Photos obtained from surveillance video of the suspect and his vehicle are included in this release.

Anyone who may know the identity or whereabouts of this individual is asked to contact the Kingsport Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 423-229-9429 or Kingsport Central Dispatch at 423-246-9111.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, "Scammers use cameras, keypad overlays, and skimming devices - like a realistic-looking card reader placed over the factory-installed card reader on an ATM or gas pump - to capture the information from your card's magnetic strip without your knowledge and get your PIN."
