18-year-old student charged in NC school shooting

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -

(AP) - An 18-year-old has been charged with shooting and wounding a fellow student at a North Carolina high school.

Police say Christopher Lamont Richardson Jr. was arrested Friday and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of firearm on school property, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and discharging a firearm within city limits.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 2:30 p.m. Friday at Carver High School in Winston-Salem. Police say the school had been conducted a fire drill when a school resource officer heard shots fired.

A 15-year-old student was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Richardson's bond was set at $50,000, and it wasn't known whether he had an attorney. He is expected in court Sept. 26.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Police in Winston-Salem say one person was wounded in a shooting at a Winston-Salem high school and that a suspect is in custody.

A statement from police said officers responded to a report of a shooting at around 2:30 p.m. Friday at Carver High School, which is on the city's northeast side. The report came slightly more than an hour before classes would have been dismissed for the day.

Police said one person was taken to N.C. Baptist Hospital with what they described as non-life threatening injuries.

Neither the suspect nor the victim has been identified.

The high school has an enrollment of approximately 700 students. It was placed on lockdown for nearly two hours.
