One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a shooting at a Jackson Apartment Complex on Friday night.

A spokesperson for the Jackson Police Department responded to The Commonwealth Apartments around 11 p.m. That's on the 3900 block of Skyview Drive.

They found two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a press release.

Neighbors say 57-year-old Robert Finch lived in building 12 in the complex. They also identified him as the victim killed in the shootout.

Blood still spattered the stairs leading to the building. Neighbors tell News Channel 12 that's where the second victim walked to try to get away from the scene.

The second victim has not been identified.

Neighbors say they heard at least five gunshots but it's unclear how many hit with either victim.

What is clear, neighbors say, is that both men were still alive immediately after this attack.

"Blood was everywhere. And he was trying to hold on, he was trying to breath," Sheila Henry, a neighbor, said.

Henry described Finch as non-violent and suggested her neighbor must have been defending himself.

Neighbors also mentioned there was a third person in the apartment during the shooting.

Police have not said what role that person played in the shootout.

Many neighbors say their minds are mainly on the lost of Finch.

"Most of the kids in the neighborhood anyway call him granddaddy. And he had a nickname for most everyone in this building. Basically, he was this building. He made this building because everyone was friends with Mr. Robert," a woman who did not want to be identified said.

Henry agreed.

"It's hard to deal with. I'm missing him already. Already. I got up this morning looking for him. I'm just used to being over at his house all the time. I'm just used to him," Henry said.

The second victim was shot in the arms, chest, and head. He is listed in critical condition at an area hospital, according to a press release.
