Pay Scheme To Reduce OT For Vicksburg Firefighters

Posted: Updated:
Vicksburg - Vicksburg officials say new work periods for firefighters and emergency medical employees could reduce the fire department's overtime by almost half.

The new pay period begins Oct. 1.

The Board of Aldermen voted 3-0 Tuesday to approve a 28-day work period for the firefighters and medics. The Vicksburg Post reports that it is the same work period used by Vicksburg police.

Firefighters, who work 24-hour shifts, are currently paid based on a 14-day work period and are eligible for overtime after working 96 hours.

Under a 28-day work period, firefighters are not eligible for overtime until they have worked 171 hours.
