Hinds county tax collector Eddie Fair is defending his decision requiring his to employees attend office functions after work hours.
The four sentence letter went out three days ago to 48 workers at the tax collector's offices in Jackson and Raymond.
It says attendance is “mandatory” for office meetings, holiday gatherings and community events like parades and national night out. "No exceptions or excuses." Employees were required to sign and return the memo.
Fair tells us staffers who sign up get to leave work early. He tells us the policy has been in place for the past ten years he's been in office. Fair says there have been no complaints until now.
