"These are pieces of concrete I actually stopped and picked up that have fallen into my drive way," Barbara Conner, Pulaski County says.

Barbara Conner shows WSLS the big slabs of concrete that she says are falling from the Peak Creek Bridge in Pulaski County.

Conner lives just down the road from the bridge and says she's scared every day driving under it. She doesn't even let her grand-kids play in the trail near it.

"I am fearful something will fall off of the bridge," Conner says. "It's changed our sense of security and we don't want to see anything happen."

Adding fuel to Conner's outrage about this bridge, just about two weeks ago, a jet skier was hospitalized when a piece concrete fell on her she was inside of Peak Creek.

"The first thing I thought of was why didn't anybody take me seriously?" Conner says.

Conner showed WSLS countless e-mails she's sent for years to county and V-DOT leaders.

She says finally someone is hearing her call for action.

Virginia Senator John Edwards and a House of Delegates candidate Michael Abraham, came together to talk about the need for money to improve the conditions of bridges like Peak Creek on interstate 81.

"It's a public safety issue," Virginia Senator John Edwards says. "This highlights the importance of making sure our bridges and roads are safe.

"We should all be outraged that you can't drive under a bridge or boat under a bridge or drive over a bridge without having to hold your breath every time and wonder if it's going to have a serious problem," Michael Abraham, House of Delegates Candidates, says.

A problem Conner hopes will be solved fast.

VDOT representatives said an inspection on the Peak Creek Bridge was done following the jet skiing action.

While the detailed report hasn't not been completed, they say there was nothing found that required immediate attention.

----

Barbara Conner drives under the Peak Creek Bridge in Pulaski County multiple times a day to get to her home.

Conner showed WSLS several e-mails sent to V-DOT about her concern with the bridge. Then two weeks ago, a woman jet skiing was hospitalized when a piece of concrete from the bridge fell on her.

Now, Conner hopes community leaders will take her seriously.

House of Delegates candidate Michael Abraham and Senator John Edwards met with people in the community to talk about the safety concerns for some Interstate 81 bridges over the New River at Montgomery and Pulaski Counties.

Both Edwards and Abraham agree the safety concerns are great and something needs to be done.

A representative from VDOT says the Peak Creek Bridge has been inspected after the accident and workers found no immediately repaid needed to be done.
