A Decatur, Miss., man has been fined $2,500 after pleading guilty to shooting a protected bald eagle in 2012.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says in a news release that 21-year-old Marcus Tyler Cochran was sentenced Sept. 4 in federal court in Jackson.
Prosecutors say Cochran shot the bald eagle while duck hunting on the Nanih Waiya Wildlife Management Area in Neshoba County on Dec. 2, 2012.
Prosecutors say Cochran was also placed on probation for a period of two years and prohibited from any hunting during that time and has to forfeit the firearm used in the incident.
