The Holmes county sheriff is investigating a collision between an Amtrak train and a truck hauling grain.
New Orleans bound train #59 with 125 passengers and 11 crew members, crashed into a truck hauling a load of corn in rural Holmes county.
The crash happened this morning near a corn field along highway 49 a few miles south of the town of Tchula. Some aboard the train say they saw and felt the moment the locomotive smashed into the 18-wheeler.
The sheriff tells us the driver said told investigators he didn’t see the train coming down the track.
The impact nearly split the truck trailer in to. Grain spilled along the track and even into the highway. Travelers came away from what some called a "terrifying experience" with emotional scars along with bumps and bruises.
At least one passenger and one crew member went to the hospital with injuries.
