Salem Captures First Mills Cup in a Dozen Years

   The Salem Red Sox captured the Mills Cup on Tuesday night at Lewis-Gale Field by completing a three-game finals sweep of Potomac. The Sox got a pair of 2 RBI doubles from Sean Coyle in staking a 6-1 lead.  The Nationals rallied for three runs to get within 6-4 before the Sox closed out the win. Coyle would finish as the series MVP after ringing up seven RBI's in three games.

    The Sox win their first Carolina league crown since becoming a Red Sox affiliate in 2009, and it is the  first title for Salem since the 2001 Salem Avalanche. It's Salem's 5th title overall. The Red Sox finished the year on an 11-game win streak.

    William Cuevas got the win on the mound for Salem, giving up three runs over six strong innings. Former Virginia Tech Ace Matt Price would toss the final two innings to earn the save.
