Spotlight on defense in Marshall vs Virginia Tech

Marshall's game at Virginia Tech looks like a defensive struggle.

The Thundering Herd (2-1) will arrive Saturday in Blacksburg, Va., with the nation's fifth-ranked defense, allowing an average of just 252.7 yards. The Hokies (2-1), meanwhile, are ranked second and give up just 190.7 yards.

But Marshall has something the Hokies don't, as yet: a proven offense.

Marshall's offense ranks 20th in the nation, averaging 527.3 yards, nearly 200 more than the Hokies.

That puts the onus on quarterback Logan Thomas and the Hokies offense to move the ball against Marshall.

Hokies linebacker Tariq Edwards believes the defense will do its job. He says if the line can get the same pressure on Marshall QB Rakeem Cato it has gotten on the Hokies' first three opponents, it could rattle him.
