A convenience store owner was beaten with a pipe and robbed at gunpoint as he arrived home early Friday.
Pike County sheriff's deputies tell The Enterprise-Journal they responded to a call around 1 a.m. at the home of Gurhinder Mehroke on Mississippi Highway 570 in Summit.
Chief Investigator Bruce Fairburn says two masked men ambushed Mehroke as he walked from his vehicle to the front door of his home.
One of the men approached Mehroke from behind and struck him on the head with a metal pipe. The other man, brandishing a handgun, went to Mehroke's vehicle and stole a bag containing about $1,500. The suspects fled the scene on foot.
Mehroke owns S&M Food Mart. Fairburn says his injuries did not require hospitalization.
