TRI-CITIES, TN/VA (WJHL) -

A local drive-in theater is getting the digital projector it needs in order to stay in business, but another drive-in theater still needs your help to keep its doors open.

The Stateline Drive-In in Elizabethton won Honda's national contest to save iconic drive-ins across the nation.  Honda originally planned on helping 5 theaters, but thanks to donations from the national campaign,  a total of 9 theaters have been saved.

Central Drive-In Theater in Norton, VA came up short in votes in the Honda Project Drive-In online contest. Now, it needs your help to remain open.

Later this year, movie studios will stop distributing 35-millimeter films and all production distributed to drive-ins will be digital.

The cost for theaters to switch to digital projectors is upwards of $75,000. Central Drive-in says it has 3 to 4 weeks to show movies on film before everything goes digital.
