Over 10,000 duped by Starbucks gift card giveaway

Posted: Updated:
SEATTLE -

The ‘official’ Starbucks instagram offered 10,000 people $10 gift cards. 10,000 instagram users got in on the deal. The only problem… This isn’t the real Starbucks instagram account.

The instagram user @starbuckscoffee_official offered a “limited promotion” that has spread like wildfire the past two days. They announced “First 10,000 people to follow us and screenshot shoutout us will receive a $10 gift card FOR FREE anyone after will receive $5.” The promotion links back to the Starbucks website, but there is no mention of the promotion on the site.

The $100,000 offer is mentioned nowhere on the coffee chain’s official instagram ‘@starbucks’. However, two days ago the unofficial account said the gift cards would be awarded on October 3rd.

9 On Your Side could not find any mention of the giveaway in Starbuck’s pressroom.
