Hokies Brace for Georgia Tech Triple Option

Posted: Updated:

The non-conference schedule is in the books- and the ACC schedule couldn't start with any more flair. Thursday night prime time on ESPN--it is the Hokies and the Yellow Jackets in a Coastal Division clash. These are the only two programs to ever advance to the title game from the Coastal Division.

But that's not what concerns the Hokies.  First on the list is the short week following a triple-overtime win against Marshall. To that end the Hokies have been working on Georgia Tech's unique offense on Sunday for a couple of weeks to avoid a last second cram session. The other obvious area of concern: the Yellow Jackets triple option flexbone attack.  Georgia Tech's offense is 4th nationally in rushing yards per game at 345.3 yards per game. The upside for the Hokies defense is the experience Bud Foster's gang has. Senior Derrick Hopkins explained that the veterans on the team have been facing this offense for the past four seasons, and the special way to defend is has become second nature.  None the less, the Ramblin' Wreck is talented, efficient and relentless in their offense. Head Coach Paul Johnson has been running a form of it for more than two decades at Georgia Southern, Navy, and now Georgia Tech.
