Law enforcement in NRV bring awareness to breast cancer

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, VA -

Law enforcement around the New River Valley are showing their support for breast cancer awareness.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Blacksburg Police are selling patches for ten dollars.

On the roads, each agency has a patrol vehicle that has pink decals and lettering.

The car used by the sheriff's office has already gotten some reaction from the community. A deputy who drives it says people have approached her about family members who have died from the disease.

"Hope people will make more donations to breast cancer research and maybe someday they can find a cure for it," says Sheriff Tommy Whitt.

The sheriff says it will keep the pink on the car even after the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
