HENRY COUNTY, VA -

The Henry County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that took place Thursday evening.

On September 26, 2013 at approximately 9:45pm, the Martinsville/Henry County 911 Center received a call of an accidental shooting at 2610 Oak Level Road Bassett, Virginia.  James Roger Clark, 47, of 2610 Oak Level Road Bassett, Virginia, stated his Springfield 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol accidentally discharged and the bullet struck his wife, Tammy Leigh Clark, 46, in the leg.  The bullet struck Ms. Clark in the right leg near the knee.  The bullet exited the right leg, entered the left leg below the knee and exited.  Ms. Clark was transported to the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County by Bassett Rescue Squad.  Ms. Clark was subsequently transferred to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.  Ms. Clark's injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

            James Roger Clark was charged with one misdemeanor count of Reckless Handling of a Firearm and one felony count of Unlawfully Discharging a Firearm within an Occupied Dwelling.  James Roger Clark was released on an unsecured bond.
