Police investigate Brookhaven train crash

Posted: Updated:
LINCOLN COUNTY - BROOKHAVEN -

Police in Brookhaven are investigating a Thursday night train crash.

Chief Bobby Bell tells us it happened around 9:00 at the Manson Street crossing. He says a southbound Canadian National train approached the intersection, and the conductors noticed a car on the track. The conductor told police he watched three people jump out of the car and run away.

The chief tells us right now it's not clear if the car stalled or if it was purposely placed there.

The train pushed the car about a mile down the track before it came to a stop.

Authorities are investigating who was actually in the car, because the vehicle's owner told police he loaned the car to someone a week ago.
