Dr. Campbell joins WNCN Today to discuss ACA; town hall meeting tonight

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Affordable Care Act is set to open healthcare exchanges, marketplaces where Americans can begin to sign up for federally mandated health insurance, starting on Oct. 1. This has some folks confused or worried.

Dr. Kevin Campbell joined Phil Sanchez on the WNCN Today set to discuss his views on the ACA, also known as Obamacare.

Dr. Campbell says his biggest concern is for his patients. The doctor believes that any reform in the US healthcare system must be "patient centered" –otherwise we are no better off than we were in the past.

As the doctor pointed out, he believes it is essential that we work to reform healthcare in America. We spend more money on healthcare per capita than any other industrialized nation in the world but the quality and availability of care doesn't match the expenditures. He believes we must create a system where all children are provided with healthcare and all Americans are provided with opportunities to purchase affordable healthcare.

That said, Dr. Campbell has real concerns about the ACA. Currently we do not have the infrastructure to support all of the systems required to run a national health care plan, he said.

The doctor said he has real concerns about how some people will be impacted by the new laws and that's very concerned that patients will suffer. Those who have had long-standing insurance through their employers are being forced to change.

In addition to Dr. Campbell's appearance, on Monday, Sept. 30, WNCN will hold a town hall meeting to answer questions and concerns that people may have regarding Obamacare. Representatives from local hospitals and colleges, Blue Cross Blue Shield, doctors and other panelists will be on hand to discuss what Obamacare means for you.

The town hall is free and open to the public. It begins at 7 p.m. The special will be hosted by Penn Holderness and Pam Saulsby and will be presented by the Burning Coal Theatre. The theatre is located at the Murphey School in downtown Raleigh.
