WJTV NEWS CHANNEL 12 today announced that the agreement between its parent company Media General and DISH Network expired at midnight (ET) on September 30. Since a new agreement was not reached, DISH, by law, cannot carry WJTV on its for-profit satellite system. “WJTV NEWS CHANNEL 12 has been an integral part of the Central Mississippi community for 60 years and that is our number one priority,” said General Manager Wm. James Cromwell. “We understand that having a blank screen instead of their favorite programming is frustrating for DISH customers and it’s frustrating for us as well.”
Media General is doing everything it can to reach a fair resolution with DISH and have our programming restored to the DISH satellite system. Media General has reached hundreds of fair, market-based agreements over many years with every other cable, satellite and telephone company that carries our stations on their Pay-TV systems. Media General stations have never experienced a disruption of service with any Pay-TV company because of an impasse. On the other hand, local stations are blacked out on DISH more than on any other Pay-TV system.
Viewers can make their voices heard by calling DISH Network at 1-888-615-3725 to tell DISH that you value our station and want it restored to their channel lineup.
Viewers may continue to watch WJTV NEWS CHANNEL 12 local news, sports and network programming by switching to an alternative Pay-TV service provider, and the channel is always available for free over the air.
Additionally, our local news and other content are available 24/7 on our website at www.wjtv.com.
