In Hinds County, around 3:00 Tuesday afternoon, emergency crews rushed down I-55, responding to a call of an 18-wheeler on fire near Terry. It turns out it was an engine fire and the driver is okay. But, the slowdown in traffic caused four more accidents: A six-car crash, a three-car crash, a two-car rash, and a four-car crash. That’s a total of 15 cars involved. One person was taken to the hospital with a neck injury.
Then, in Byram, a driver lost control of his pickup truck and trailer and rolled over. Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
In Copiah County, one man was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center after he ran off the road in Crystal Springs around 5:30 p.m. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. But, we're told, the driver is in stable condition.
