Mississippi Festivals Are Abundant

Mississippi - PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - More than 300 arts, crafts and food vendors will line downtown Pascagoula on Saturday for the annual Zonta Arts and Crafts Festival.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1hl66AI ) about 10,000 people attended last year's festival.
Zonta member Evelyn Draughn hopes for an even bigger crowd this year.
Vendors are expected to come from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
The festival will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday with an opening ceremony featuring Pascagoula Mayor Jim Blevins, the national anthem and the releasing of doves.
The festival is a large fundraiser for the Zonta group, a service organization. Most of the money stays in Jackson County and is used for scholarships, the group says.

OSYKA, Miss. (AP) - The Pike County community of Osyka plans its annual fall festival on Saturday.
The Enterprise-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1hliH7g ) activities will be centered Saturday and Sunday on Railroad Avenue in the downtown area.
Festival hours are 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
A costume contest and other activities for children, a talent contest, vendor booths and live entertainment, including gospel music on Sunday.

VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Hog cookers and beer brewers have a few more days to register for Hogtoberfest.
The Vicksburg Post reports (http://bit.ly/1hllVrkthe) the deadline to register for the competitions is Friday.
Annette Kirklin, executive director of the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation, one of the sponsor organizations, says the event is attracting much interest.
Hogtoberfest is set for 1-4 p.m. on Oct. 26.
