If you're planning on traveling this weekend, whether it's by car, train or plane, travel officials warn to be careful and check the weather before leaving your house.
"Aviation safety is the number one goal of everyone in the aviation community," expresses Bonnie Wilson.
The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority is doing everything they can to make sure flights to and from Jackson depart as scheduled. But, Tropical Storm Karen could cause some delays nationwide.
"As the storm impacts various cities on the Southeast we could see some disturbance as far as the Midwest and West Coast," explains Wilson.
The Mississippi State Port Authority does not plan to evacuate the port facility in Gulf Port. But, the Port of New Orleans is likely to close on Friday. We’re told Carnival Cruise Lines has two cruise ships scheduled to leave this weekend. No word yet on how the storm will affect the departure times.
MDOT officials tell us it's too early to make a decision about road closures. But, they will have an update on road conditions statewide on their website.
