A woman who died in a Sunday afternoon car crash may not have been wearing her seatbelt, the Claiborne County Sheriff said.
Another man – a passenger - was hospitalized after the crash. He survived, county officials said.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. on Barland Road in the Pattison area, Sheriff Marvin Lucas said.
The vehicle hit an embankment along a curve near White Hall Baptist Church. The crash flipped the vehicle, Sheriff Lucas said.
Sheriff Lucas also said this crash has been difficult for him because he went to high school with the victims who now live in the Pattison community. Ceola Anderson, 57, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. She was pronounced dead on the scene, Claiborne County Coroner J.W. Mallet said.
A helicopter airlifted the passenger, 56-year-old Dennis Ellis, to UMC.
He is listed in "fair" condition there. He is expected to pull through, Sheriff Lucas said. Sheriff Lucas said he would like to remind everyone to wear seatbelts while riding in the car.
