Alexandria, LA - Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a suspicious activity and possible burglary at an abandoned residence in Alexandria, Louisiana on October 5th. When deputies arrived, 3 men ran into a field behind the residence. After waiting for back-up, officers found 16 cars with tags from Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas parked behind the house.

Next to the residence, a large dog fighting ring was found. It was constructed with poles and black tarp made into a 10 foot high wall with a ring made of plywood with grass carpet. Flood lights and a generator were also found.

When deputies searched the premises, 3 pit bulls were found inside cars, and 1 was on a chain. Deputies also found John Marshall Daniels Jr. lying on the ground in an attemp to hide.

About an hour after, a call came in to the Alexandria Police Deapartment regarding a carjacking. Frank Williams, 30, had pulled over to check on his vehicle and was confronted by 2 males who carjacked him. Williams was contacted about the carjacking and later confessed one of the cars at the scene of the dog fighting ring belonged to him. Williams also confessed to filing a false report.

Both Williams and Daniels were arrested on charges of Criminal Trespassing and Dog Fighting, both were released on $1700.00 bonds.

Two days after the arrests of Williams and Daniels, Troy Joseph Day, 32, of Alexandria, was arrested on Criminal Trespass, Dog fighting, Cruelty to Animals, Resist Arrest by Flight and Criminal Conspiracy.  He is still in the Rapides Parish Detention Center.

All equipment and cars at the residence were seized.

Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office believes that from the information gained by the investigation, that this instance of dog fighting may be part of a multi state dog fighting ring. RSPO detectives say that the investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.

On October 8th, RPSO Detectives made another arrest in their ongoing investigation into the dog fighting ring discovered last Saturday night.

Detectives have arrested Otis Cassanova Harris, 27, of  Baker, LA for Criminal Trespassing, Criminal Conspiracy, Possession of CDS III and Dog fighting.  Harris came to RPSO to retrieve his vehicle that had been impounded the night of the incident.  Narcotics were found in his vehicle and Harris admitted ownership of the drugs.
