Police: Wake Forest robbery similar to string of robberies

WAKE FOREST, N.C. -

Wake Forest Police are investigating an armed robbery at a home on Ridgemount Street.

The incident happened Tuesday, Oct. 8 just around 11:34 p.m. at a Bernadette Atwater's home in the 6200 block of Ridgemount St.

The suspect is accused of stealing jewelry, including a tennis bracelet, watch and ring, and the keys to a Lexus ES350.

Atwater told the 911 dispatcher that the suspect held a gun to her head and tried to make her drive him to an ATM.

"Somebody came and put a gun to my head in the garage and asked me to go to the ATM machine," Atwater told the dispatcher.

The robbery has neighbors on edge.

"You always think to yourself, that's not going to happen here this is a safe place to live, but in reality that kind of thing can happen anywhere. It just makes you feel like you're not safe anywhere," said Kim Russert who lives a few houses down from where the robbery happened.

The suspect is facing robbery, kidnapping, breaking and entering and larceny charges.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male with a medium build. He was wearing black gloves and a ski mask during at the time crime was committed.

Police are unable to confirm if this incident is related to similar crimes the Raleigh area, however they can say there are similar circumstances.
