RALEIGH, N.C. -

A person has been detained in connection with a series of armed robberies in Raleigh and Wake Forest, Raleigh Police confirmed Friday afternoon.

The Raleigh Police Department said charges "remain pending."

Area police have been looking for a man connected to multiple robberies in recent weeks that put many in the area on edge.

Tips: What to do in a dangerous situation

Those robberies that police think may be linked included:

  • Sunday, Sept. 22: Around 2 a.m. in the 4800 block of Pleasant Valley Road, two people walking on a sidewalk when they were approached by a suspect who was armed with a hand gun.
  • Sunday, Sept. 22: A robbery happened at 11:50 p.m. in the 4300 block of Furman Hall.
  • Monday, Sept. 23: Around 10:30 p.m., an armed robber approached a female in the 1000 block of Collins Drive, between her car and residence. When the woman screamed, her husband opened the door and the suspect forced the wife inside the house.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 8: Armed robbery in Wake Forest  on Ridgemount Street around 11:34 p.m. A man stole jewelry and the keys to a Lexus ES350. The man held a gun to a woman's head and tried to force her to drive him to an ATM. He was wearing black gloves and a ski mask.

Some gun stores in Raleigh have seen an increase in sales of firearms, pepper spray and stun guns after the incidents.

North Raleigh Guns said it has seen a 30 percent increase in gun sales this month. In general, more women of the age 45-60 have been buying firearms for protection, or learning to shoot a gun.
