There’s a twist in this week’s intense manhunt for an accused kidnapper and murderer in Hinds county. The woman who told officials she was abducted is said to be the wife of the man she says took her captive.
According to court records, Michael Wright and Sharice Latham were married back in February in Madison county after the couple applied for a marriage license in Rankin county.
This revelation led Hinds sheriff’s investigators to question what they say are inconsistencies in the 34 year-old woman's story.
Latham claims she escaped after the 37 year-old Wright kidnapped her from her uncle's home whom he allegedly shot and killed Wednesday morning in Utica.
Authorities believe Wright could be communicating with Latham’s family. They’ve been tracking cell phone numbers he may be using to stay in touch with her relatives.
And someone could now be helping him stay one step ahead of officers who began a manhunt three days ago.
That’s why the search has expanded statewide.
Investigators say wright may be hiding in north Mississippi
A team is now looking for him in Panola County, where he was out of jail on bond for the Christmas Eve 2012 murder of Cera White Cannon.
Meantime at Hinds county agricultural high school's annual homecoming parade in downtown Utica, the entire seven-member police force was on duty in the small town a few miles from where the search for Michael wright began.
People attending the parade say they were relieved to see the extra law enforcement officers on hand helping them feel
Hinds county deputies and state troopers were also on hand to make sure the parade went off without a hitch.
