WSLS's 1st and 10 extended over in to Saturday during week one of the high school football season. North Cross hosted Virginia Episcopal in a game dominated by the Raiders. The Raiders defense was hungry all game long, and the Bishops quaretback Paddy Cotter didn't have much time to get things done in the pocket.        Looking past an FCS opponent is not something Virginia Tech wants to get caught doing again.

Six straight wins after the opening loss to Alabama have been impressive--but exacting for sure. The Hokies got a much needed bye week after the Pittsburgh win, and return for a five game stretch run that could very well lead to Charlotte. Quarterback Logan Thomas has been nursing a sore foot and tired arm, and says both are doing better after the much needed rest.

Duke is 5-2 and one win away from a second straight bowl bid--something no Duke team has ever done. Coach David Cutcliffe has turned the Blue Devils around after years of struggles, and Coach Beamer explains that Duke has the confidence because they've done it--and now they believe they can keep doing it. The Blue Devils most most recent conquest was a very visable second half rally that turned a 22 point Virginia lead into a 13 point Cavaliers defeat.   Duke reeled off 35 unanswered points in Charlottesville in a nearly perfect half of football.  Kyle Fuller says the Hokies understand Duke's attack and they need to be on their game in order to stop it. A season ago Duke led the Hokies by 20 points at Lane Stadium before the Hokies responded and won going away. Three of the past five contests between these two teams have been decided by 11 points or less.
