Red Hat helping fix troubled health care website

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh-based Red Hat is one of the tech companies sending people to help solve the problems with the health care website, according to a Bloomberg News report.

Bloomberg, citing a blogpost by Julie Bataille of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, said Red Hat, Google and Oracle are involved in trying to make the site function more smoothly.

The site has been plagued with problems since the Oct. 1 launch, and Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius faced tough questions in Congress Thursday.

Bataille, in the blogpost, wrote, "There are dozens of software engineers, developers, designers and analysts who are methodically working around the clock on performance and functionality of healthcare.gov."

Red Hat confirmed some of what it is doing on its website, with a four-page technical summary. You can see that here.

A Red Hat official would not comment on the matter.
