Dollar General Robbery Suspect Shot By Police

Posted: Updated:
Authorities say a man who was shot by a Jackson police officer after a robbery has been charged with armed robbery of a business and aggravated assault on a police officer.
Jackson Police Department spokeswoman Colendula Green says in a news release that the robbery happened Thursday morning at the Dollar General in west Jackson.
Green says the first officer arrived as the suspect was taking the money and the man shot at the officer. Green says the officer returned fire.
The suspect was arrested later and treated for gunshot wound to the body, though it was not considered life threatening.
Green identified the suspect as 25-year-old Michael Smith. It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
